Splash of colour on a very grey day

It is such a miserable day here with grey skies, drizzly rain and cold winds that I need a splash of colour in my life. Don't we all at times? I decided to list a few lovely old French enamelware items in my Etsy shop today, I felt much better after looking at all those bright colours -

French pink glass salt cellar

I adore the gorgeous old French glass salt cellars and always use them when we are in France. You can still see them being used in restaurants everywhere.

This particular salt cellar is just the prettiest shade of peachy pink. I would say it is from the 1930s, the shape and the colour certainly point that way. It is in really nice condition, there is only the smallest nibble on the rim on one side.

Antique French Knife Rests, set of 6

You probably saw these fabulous knife rests on my main blog some time ago. I had never seen knife rests like these, with the little cups on either side. I think they could be for individual salt and pepper helpings for the diners, so that they don't have to pass one large salt/pepper cellar round. The French usually have those double salts on the table rather than salt and pepper grinders/shakers -

What's in the box?

What could possibly be in this rather tatty faux crocodile skin box? A necklace? No. A carving set perhaps? Closer, but no. Cutlery? Yes, spot on! This is a set of 6 very early Pradel knives, and they are so handsome. The handles seem to be very early bakelite ( but I am no expert ) and have such fabulous rich colouring. Between handle and blade is a silver metal collar ( honestly can't tell you what sort of metal it is or whether it is silver plated or not ).
